Zomei Slim Pro II MC ND3.0 1000X 10-stop Neutral Density Filter

Read the Photography 101 article to understand the ratings of neutral density (ND) filters.

This thread-on filter features high quality German Schott glass. It is multicoated but how does it perform?

The big question is this: do these Zomei filters degrade sharpness? Sharpness is the only thing that can not be corrected in post-processing.

Samples

This filter is sharp but there is a very strong color cast to deal with. This is not a deal breaker because it can easily be corrected. Also, the filter does not appear to be a true 10 stops as the sample seems to be a little overexposed according to the histogram. Use the shutter speed calculator to determine correct shutter speed to use.

Conclusion

This filter is sharp and inexpensive. It is a good value even considering its very strong color cast and is less than 10 stops.
