Zomei Slim Pro II MC ND1.8 64X 6-stop Neutral Density Filter

Read the Photography 101 article to understand the ratings of neutral density (ND) filters.

This Zomei filter is a thread-on one and is multicoated. It uses German Schott glass so it promises to be sharp assuming something very wrong has not been done during the manufacture.

The big question is this: do these inexpensive Zomei filters degrade sharpness?

Samples

As can clearly be seen, sharpness is fine but there is a color cast to deal with which can be corrected in post.

The histogram of the sample indicates that this filter is actually stronger than 6 stops, but again, this can be corrected in post-processing. Use the shutter speed calculator to determine correct shutter speed to use.

Conclusion

This filter is sharp and inexpensive. It is a good value even considering its color cast.
