The most shocking of this comparison is how well the old Zoom-Nikkor 43-86mm/3.5 Ai did. At f/8, it's nearly as sharp as the 55-300mm AF-S and AF 50mm/1.8 D.

These had to be hand held because there is no way to turn-off the VR in the AF-P Nikkor lens on the Nikon D7100.
